Dog Parents, This One is For You !
For many couples, dogs aren’t just pets, they’re family. As a dog mom of three, my world truly revolves around my pups, so it makes my heart incredibly happy when I see couples find ways to include their dogs in their wedding day. Whether your furry best friend can be there in person or needs to celebrate from afar, there are so many meaningful (and adorable) ways to make them part of your love story.
Here are some of my favorite ways couples include their dogs on their wedding day. And yes, I love photographing every single one of these moments.
If Your Dog Is Able to Be Present on Your Wedding Day
Having your dog physically at your wedding adds so much personality, joy, and emotion to the day. It also makes for some of the sweetest, most candid photos.
Ring Bearer or Flower Pup
One of the most popular options (and for good reason). Whether your pup walks down the aisle with a ring box or simply steals the show with their presence, it’s always a crowd favorite. Girl dogs always steal the show with a bouquet of flowers around their neck!
Canine Escort
If your dog is more comfortable walking alongside someone they know, having them escort a bridesmaid or groomsman down the aisle is a great option. It keeps them calm while still making them part of the ceremony.
Wedding Greeter
Some couples choose to have their dog greet guests as they arrive or during cocktail hour. It’s a fun, relaxed way to include them without the pressure of the ceremony itself.
Portrait Time with Your Pup
Even if your dog isn’t involved in the ceremony, putting a few minutes on your timeline for portraits is so worth it. These images often become favorites because they capture your real life, the love you share every day, not just on your wedding day.
Tip: Consider having a trusted friend, family member, or professional pet handler dedicated to caring for your dog during the day so you can fully enjoy every moment stress-free.
If Your Dog(s) Can’t Be There
Not every venue allows pets, and some dogs are happier celebrating from home (and that’s okay). There are still so many thoughtful ways to honor them.
Dog-Themed Cake Toppers
Custom cake toppers that resemble your dog(s) are a subtle and adorable way to include them in your reception details.
Signature Cocktails Inspired by Your Pup
Create signature drinks named after your dogs or inspired by their personalities. It’s a fun conversation starter and a creative personal touch.
Wedding Favors Featuring Your Dog
From custom koozies to drink stirrers or treats, including your dog in your wedding favors is a sweet way to share them with your guests. One of my brides sent home tennis balls with other pet parents!
Photo Charm on Your Bouquet
A small photo charm attached to your bouquet is a beautiful, sentimental way to keep your pup close as you walk down the aisle.
Photo Display at the Reception
Including framed photos of your dog(s) on a memory table or detail table adds a personal, heartfelt element that guests always notice and love.
Your Wedding Day Should Feel Like You
Your wedding day is about celebrating your love, and for so many couples, their dogs are a huge part of that story. However you choose to do it, including your dog makes your day even more meaningful.
As a wedding photographer (and proud dog mom), I’ll always be a yes to couples who want their fur babies included. Those moments are filled with real emotion, laughter, and love and they make the most unforgettable memories.
If you’re planning your wedding and wondering how to include your dog, I’d love to help capture those moments in a way that feels natural and true to you!
